What is On-Line Medical Control?
On-Line Medical Control is the ability for EMS providers in the field to speak directly with a physician regarding critical patients, or when advice is needed for any patient. In order to safely give medical advice, physicians need to be fluent in the local protocols and policies. In order to achieve this, an On-Line Medical Control course was created. Physicians at the area hospitals must take the course and pass a test before they can begin answering the medical control phone.
There is an app available to download EMS Protocols available through the New York State Bureau of EMS and Trauma Systems. Click here to navigate to the NYS Protocol Page for more information.
